ASO tools in 2026: what to use, what to skip

There are 40+ ASO tools on the market. Most solo devs and small studios need exactly three. Here is the honest map.

The 4 jobs, then the tools

Every ASO tool falls into one of four jobs: keyword research, competitor and market intelligence, screenshot / creative testing, and page critique. Pick one tool per job. Stacking three keyword tools is a waste.

1. Keyword research

You need volume estimates, difficulty, and chance scores for terms in your language. The mainstream picks in 2026 are Sensor Tower, Appfigures, and AppTweak. They all pull from similar sources; the differences are UX and price.

For solo devs on a budget, Appfigures has the cleanest keyword tool at the lowest tier. For agencies handling 10+ apps, AppTweak's data depth wins.

Free alternative: App Store Connect's own Search Ads keyword suggestions. Underrated. It uses real Apple data, not scraped estimates.

2. Competitor and market intelligence

This is where Sensor Tower and data.ai (formerly App Annie) dominate. If you need download and revenue estimates for competitors, you are paying enterprise prices.

Skip this category unless you are pitching investors or running paid UA at scale. Solo devs do not need a $1,500/month tool to know their category leader is winning.

3. Screenshot and creative testing

Splitmetrics and Storemaven run pre-launch A/B tests by driving traffic to a fake store page. Powerful, expensive, and only worth it if you have a paid UA budget to feed them.

4. Page critique
